McDonald's Singapore: Chilli Crab Burger Review - Mushy Prawn Patty

RATING: 3.6 ★ |

At a glance...

Tangy and tasty chilli crab sauce, but the amount was disappointing. Prawn patty was a bit mushy. The burger was delicious, but not worth its price.

  • Taste: 3.6/5
  • Is it worth it: Not quite worth it. Depends if you enjoy trying novelty food. A bit expensive for its unimpressive quality.

REVIEW:

The thing that stood out to me was how little sauce there was. McDonald's could have done a better job on that! I think it would be more true to its name if there was more chilli crab sauce in its burger.

  • Not enough sauce
  • Taste of sauce: It was okay. Quite tangy and tasty, just not enough
[I found some critical comments on Reddit, but it was okay for me. The sauce didn't wow me or anything, but it did taste like chilli crab sauce.]
  • Taste of prawn patty: Not crispy, lacked a definitive texture. Felt mushy overall, with a few obvious bits of prawn bites.
  • Prawn patty felt a bit detached from the sauce, like I was tasting two separate things even though I ate them together, if that makes sense. The sauce didn't integrate well with the patty.

When I first saw the ad for the chilli crab burger, it reminded me of the Ebi burger that McDonald's Singapore used to launch during specific seasons(?) I'm not sure when was the last time McDonald's brought it back here. Certainly, Ebi burger was kind of a different thing since it hails from McDonald's Japan, and so takes on a Japanese flavor.

In the chilli crab burger, there's a piece of scrambled egg in it, which I'm not sure what's the purpose of it? Maybe to mimic the bits of "eggyness" in chilli crab sauce? I wondered if the scrambled egg had inevitably lessened or masked the "chilli crabiness" of the whole burger too.

Overall, the burger was acceptable. I still found it delicious, just that it could be better in a few areas - especially the presence of the chilli crab taste. It would have been good if there was more sauce. I think that would enhance the overall flavor. Given the price, I expected something better.

PS: I totally forgot this was a collaboration with well-known seafood chain, JUMBO, till when I looked at my photos while writing this review. Perhaps, the burger would stand out more if the sauce had a stronger presence. It's a shame.

Unisoy Rice Soy Milk Powder Review: Rich and Aromatic

RATING:  4 ★ |  At a glance...  Aromatic and creamy soy milk with a subtle rice note — just the right sweetness and easy to enjoy.  Taste:   5/5  [Rich and creamy texture. Strong scent.]  [Less than 10 ingredients that are mostly recognizable. With additive and flavorings.]  Is it worth it:  Depends on whether you want to have a flavored soy milk. It's a bit pricey, and with the additives, I'd rather just pay more for a fresh cup of soy milk. Suitability:  If you like soy milk with a thick and rich texture, if you want convenience and have something different from a regular soy milk. Great as a breakfast drink or for tea breaks.
